Should I be concerned about gum disease

Gum disease is extremely common. In fact, as much as 80% of the population has some form of gum disease, and many are unaware of a problem. Gum disease begins stealthily, showing only minor symptoms such as bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth, reddened or inflamed gums, and bleeding while brushing. Patients often ignore or fail to recognize the symptoms until the disease has reached an advanced stage. Gum disease is serious, though. It’s the number-one cause of adult tooth loss, and it’s been directly linked to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, pregnancy complications, and more. Regular exams and cleanings with Dr. Williams are your first defense against this common condition. Dr. Williams also offers conservative, non-surgical therapy, including laser treatment for gum disease.

Can the dentist help with headaches?

In many cases, chronic headaches can be traced back to an imbalanced bite or malocclusion. The muscles in the face and jaw have to work harder to chew, eat, and speak, causing chronic headaches and facial pain. If your “bite” is the underlying cause of your symptoms, Dr. Williams may be able to correct the problem with a custom appliance or nightguard.
